(Sutter Creek) Amador Water Agency Directors voted in late December to appoint Jim Abercrombie as Interim General Manager, following the departure of General Manager Larry McKenney.
Abercrombie will be a familiar face to many in Amador County as he was AWA’s General Manager from 1998 – 2009. More recently he served 16 years as General Manager at El Dorado Irrigation District, retiring from that position this summer.
A registered civil engineer, he has a total of 48 years in the utility industry, including 20 years at PG&E before moving into water district management. He lives in El Dorado County and is active in regional water and civic organizations.
“I’m happy to return to Amador County to help the Water Agency through its leadership transition, and I’m grateful to the board of directors for the opportunity,” said Abercrombie. He will take over duties at AWA in the new year.
McKenney accepted the General Manager position at a water district in Southern California. His last day at the Agency was December 31, 2025. AWA Directors have begun the process of recruiting a permanent general manager.
