(Sutter Creek) Amador Water Agency Board of Directors and guests dedicated completion of an eight-year, $13 million project to improve service and emergency preparedness in the Carson Drive/Buckhorn Ridge Road area with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday at the site of two new million-gallon water storage tanks. The three-phase project corrected drinking water deficiencies caused by low water pressure for 717 customers, improved fire flows on about three miles of water main and replaced failing water tanks serving close to half of all AWA water customers, including Pine Grove and Mace Meadows wholesale customers. It added 25 standard fire hydrants, replaced narrow bottlenecks in the water main, eliminated an old redwood tank and increased water storage by about 350% to 2 million gallons in the new tanks, critical for fire protection for the whole upcountry area. Sixty-two percent was funded by grants that don’t have to be paid back. Amador County Supervisors partnered with AWA to obtain over $6 million in Federal Community Development Block Grants to pay for Phases I & II. Total project costs for Phase III were $7,075,000, through a $1,976,000 USDA grant, $4,951,000 in USDA low-interest loans, and $148,000 in AWA funds.
